PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Teachers’ Biennial Exhibit

Emilio S. Jacinto, Jr., Director
Claret School of Quezon City

The Teachers’ Biennial Exhibit was launched in 2007 simultaneous with the presentation of the “Bakit ang Galing Mo” creativity seminar at the GSIS Theater last December 2, 2006. It was transferred to UP Jorge B. Vargas Museum and traveled to several SM Malls such as Mall of Asia, SM Megamall and The Block of SM North Edsa. It was meant to be a creativity release for the teachers.

The next Teachers’ Biennial Exhibit is envisioned to act as a platform for the teachers’ creative pursuits. This program has been encouraged to allow the individual artistry of the educators to be experienced, shared and enjoyed by everyone. It is meant to be a venue where additional know-how may be extracted for use in their classroom. This exhibit is intended to draw out inspiration among the other educators who are at present experiencing blocks in their creative exploration.

Rationale:

Most Filipinos went through “paper art”, we all did. “Barkong papel”. “Eroplanong papel”. Who would forget the art of folding papers, Filipino style? Construction papers which are abound nowadays were inaccessible in the past. But we all had Papel de Hapon. Manila paper was unforgettable, too. Overnight, the palara from the cigarette boxes became paper sculpture. These days, the sign of the times are paper toille, paper twine, paper pulp, paper mache, or would we still rather call it “taka”?

In this exhibit entitled “Papel”, the art teachers’ will renew once more their propensity for paper as an extra-ordinary medium for art, for you see, artist educators do not simply see paper as a tool for writing, artist educators see the beauty beyond.
